Purchasing a new computer can be an experience that most of us would rather avoid. Not only is a computer considered a major purchase, but also the number of options can be overwhelming. Simply taking some time to explore your options can create an enjoyable experience instead of one to be avoided. Here are some helpful ideas to make that computer purchase easier.

The first the to decide is whether you want a PC/Windows or Apple platform. Apple computers are extremely user friendly and have remained largely immune from any virus or malware attacks. PCs on the other hand offer more applications and software. However, Apple is catching up on that front. If you do choose an Apple computer, make sure that the software you need is available for that platform. Also, realize that Apples are a bit more expensive that PCs. On the other hand, Apples are easier to learn as well as maintain. You should also look at what the main uses you will ask your computer to do. Apples are well known for the computing and software options in terms of multi-media and graphics.

Next, you will need to decide whether you need a desktop or a laptop. Laptops are the best in terms of portability, but they also come with a higher price tag than do desktops. Desktops are not only less expensive, but more easily upgradeable. If you do decide on a laptop, make sure that the model you choose has a sufficient number of ports (such as USB and FireWire), and peripherals such as DVD and CD players or burners.
